Getting Started

Powered parachute wing inflation and taking offIt's time to put your dreams in motion and get started with your training. An introductory flight is a great way to find out if flying is for you or not, but like a lot of people, they already know they are going to love this.

There is no age limit on when you can begin training. The FAA however does require you be at least 16 years old to solo.

Other requirements to start training are:

  • Have a current U.S. drivers license.
  • Able to read, write and understand English.
  • Must not have been denied a third class medical

To get your FAA Sport Pilot license for the Powered Parachute, you only need 10 hours of training. You will be able to fly solo with just a few hours of training and the completion of a written test.

Your going to need a few books and supplies for your training:

  • FAA Powered Parachute Handbook. This is a free publication from the FAA and can be downloaded in PDF format here.  It is also available in paperback format from several retailers including Amazon.com.
  • The most current FAR/AIM manual
  • Current Memphis sectional
  • Study guide for the written Sport Pilot Powered Parachute exam. There are several study guides on the market including the Gleims book.
  • Most current Practical Test Standards. This is your guide for the "check ride" to receive your license.

Not required, but a great guide to helping you pass the practical test is Paul Hamilton's Sport Pilot Checkride book.
